Senior Cost Accountant – Chicago Heights, Ill.

Job Description

UGN, a world class manufacturer of acoustic, interior trim, and thermal management products for the Japanese transplant automotive industry in North America, is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to join our team at our Chicago Heights, Illinois facility.

The Senior Cost Accountant manages the cost accounting function for the plant by planning, analyzing and communicating the profitability of its manufacturing operations.  Plays a key role in month-end closing process, the preparation of financial analyses and reports, and development of business process improvements.  The job scope also includes work on a variety of special projects.

Job Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare journal entries related to cost of goods sold and inventories.
  • Analyze and explain monthly manufacturing variances and prepare reports for manufacturing.
  • Prepare Monthly Actual Cost Reports for all product lines and address related questions and variances.
  • Perform periodic update of standard costs for labor, material and overhead to ensure they are up-to-date and accurately reflect manufacturing costs.
  • Prepare monthly financial and management reports.
  • Support all manufacturing departments and assist them with special analyses as requested.  Identify process and system improvement opportunities that drive continuous improvement.
  • Be a project team member of the cost reduction team and assist in the implementation of Manufacturing/Operations cost and process improvements.
  • Assist in the planning and taking of physical inventories.
  • Prepare assigned journal entries and account reconciliations for month-end close.
  • Review general ledger accounts and preliminary financial statements during month-end close.
  • Assist in preparation of Business Plan.
  • Backup other areas of accounting as necessary.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) in Accounting or Finance from an accredited four-year college or university required; three to five years of accounting experience in manufacturing environment with a minimum of three years in cost accounting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, Access and Microsoft Outlook; and knowledge of accounting software.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
