Job Description

UGN, a world class manufacturer of acoustic, interior trim, and thermal management products for the Japanese transplant automotive industry in North America, is seeking a Vice President of Human Resources to join our team in Tinley Park, Illinois.

The Vice President of Human Resources leads and manages the Corporate and Plant Human Resources Teams toward the successful attainment of corporate strategic goals and objectives.  Serves as an integral member of the Executive Leadership Team responsible for delivery of high quality Team Member programs. Responsibilities include all aspects of Human Resource management, including compensation and benefits, staffing and talent management, employee relations, organizational development, management of Human Resources information systems, long-range planning, security and safety. Originates policies and procedures and manages administrative activities affecting all operations and locations of the company.  Serves as business partner to the President and CEO in order to plan, evaluate and recommend overall corporate strategies.

As a member of the organization’s senior leadership team, actively promotes an environment of cooperation and respect, fosters and promotes team development, participates in creative strategic planning, implements best practices, and develops responsible budgets to advance the goals of UGN and lead it to future successes.

Duties

Duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide leadership and management through goal setting, counseling and performance management to the Human Resource Teams, Security, Safety Managers and Training and
  • Development.
  • Manage change in a growing organization; evolve processes from manual to fully automated while optimizing efficiency.
  • Originate Human Resource practices and policies that provide a balanced and consistent work environment throughout all of the organization’s departments and locations.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement policies and programs in such areas as recruitment and employment, organizational planning, talent management, wage, salary, and benefits administration, labor relations, and communications.
  • Advise management on employee relations, compensation, staffing, succession planning, in policy interpretation and program matters, and best business practice development and implementation.
  • Audit and enforce consistent application of policies, procedures and wages throughout the organization.
  • Ensure corporation is in compliance with all federal, state and local labor laws.
  • Analyze existing benefit programs and policies of the corporation and prevailing practices among similar organizations to establish competitive benefits programs.
  • Evaluate services, coverage and options available through insurance providers and benefit consultants to determine the best program for the needs of the corporation.
  • Counsel Team Members on matters affecting their employment.
  • Investigate complaints regarding Team Member relations.
  • Represent the organization at legal proceedings and investigations.
  • Direct labor relations initiatives in accordance with company goal to remain union-free.
  • Manage union-free campaigns as necessary to maintain UGN’s union-free workforce.
  • Manage the corporate safety and risk management functions to control and/or reduce the company’s liabilities.
  • Promote an environment of cooperation and respect among UGN Team Members.
  • Champion open communication throughout all departments of UGN.
  • Implement best practices to foster UGN’s growth and continued viability.
  • Contribute to corporate strategic planning to define and implement corporate vision and strategy.
  • Participate in budget planning activities and develop, monitor, manage and achieve annual departmental budget expectations.
  • Is responsible for obtaining goals outlined in the annual business plan.
  • Conduct wage surveys within national, regional, and local labor markets to determine competitive wage rates.
  • Supervise the maintenance of Team Member records of insurance coverage, and personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Oversees Corporate and Plant level Human Resources staff, Corporate Safety Manager, and Training and Development staff.  Performs supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training Team Members; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining Team Members; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Desired Background Experience

  • Bachelor degree (B.S. or B.A.) from accredited four-year college or university; MBA a plus; ten to fifteen years experience leading a mid-sized Human Resources Department with demonstrated sensitivity to people. Solid generalist experience across the broad array of Human Resources operational activities and initiatives. Knowledge of U.S. employment laws and compliance regulation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems.
  • Certificates: SPHR, GPHR
